Yesterday we took the girls into Boston for a visit to the Children's Museum. Thanks to my parents, we are now members of the museum, and were able to go in the "members only" expedited line to check in. We felt pretty cool about that :)

Well, I have decided to take the plunge and give this whole cake-baking-and-decorating thing a decent try. First step, come up with a catchy but not too wordy name. I had a long list of possibilities, including Piece of Cake, Batter Up, Port Cakes, Clipper Cakes, Take the Cake, Bake Me A Cake, and Just Add Cake, but For Goodness Cakes was my favorite. This morning I decided it was time for Sadie to get a haircut. Not just a trim, like she had gotten before, but a REAL haircut. So we bundled up and, despite the snow, drove the 1/4 mile over to Super Cuts. Sadie was a good girl during the haircut (even though she wanted to sit on my lap the whole time), and seemed to like her new 'do!

Sadie had her first dance class this past week at the Dance Place in Newburyport. She wore her leotard and tutu and had an absolute blast frolicking around with all of her little buddies. Here she is posing with her friend Elsie before class:

Happy New Year! We spent New Year's Eve '09-'10 at our friend Mary-Jo & her family at their beach house on Seabrook beach with the Bean family and some other friends of the Anderson's.

This morning we took the girls out on a snow walk and took Sadie sledding. Here, with Sadie as our model, is the anatomy of a sled ride.

It's December 31st, 2009, and Sean and I are sitting here on the couch, watching the 30 Rock marathon on TV, discussing our New Years Resolutions. While his resolutions are a bit more broad, mine are a bit more specific. I would like to work on de-cluttering each and every room of my house, and throwing lots and lots of junk away. I would like to cook one new meal each week. And I would like to start blogging more... consistently. So I figured I'd end 2009 with a wrap-up post from the month of December, then try my hardest to keep up with posting in 2010!

Our month of December has been filled with so many new activities, playdates, birthdays, and holidays. Some highlights include:

Playing with Jack & Molly after Sadie's birthday party. We haven't seen the Doyles since August, but Molly & Sadie jumped right back into best buddy-hood once they saw each other again!

Meeting up with the Doyles in Portland for a little Children's Museum/lunch date,

Decorating cookies at Grammy's house,

Smiling a lot!

Surprising Grampy at school for lunch during his last week of teaching before he retired,

Crying hysterically when within 10 feet of Jolly Old St. Nick,

Dancing with her buddy Will at the Mother's Club Christmas party,

Throwing a surprise bowling party for my dad's 60th birthday (and decorating my first cake!)

Sadie's Birthday Party

We had a birthday party for Sadie and her friends the week before her real birthday. Since she loves her music class at Itsy Bitsy so, so much (www.itsybitsyzone.com), we did her party there. It was a blast. She had about 20 friends/cousins there, and we had a mini-music class, then went into the back room for pizza and cake.

Auntie Winnah held Ruby for the most part of Sadie's party, and seemed to enjoy all the music and instruments!

Christmas Eve

We had our second annual Christmas Eve brunch at Grammy & Grampy's house again this year. Grammy had bought all of the kiddos new pajamas that they all wore. Here's a picure of 5 of the 6 of them (minus Maggie)- Cali, Ruby, Sadie, Patrick, & Kelte.

After brunch, we headed home for naps. After naps, we decided to take our chances and bring both girls to church, which ended up going much more smoothly than we could have hoped for! From church we headed to Eric (Sean's cousin) & Christen's house for Christmas Eve dinner which we do every year. Here's a pic of most of the cousins there.

Christmas Day

We continued our tradition of taking a picture of the kiddos as they woke up on Christmas morning. Sadie in her crib tent/cage, and Ruby in her swaddle.

Sadie raced down the hall, and was completely stunned when she found all the toys Santa had left for her!

All day every day Sadie just says, "Hold Ruby!!!" and she just wants to hold her for about 15 seconds, before she pushes her away and says, "Mama have her." It's very sweet.

After spending Christmas morning at our house, the girls took naps and we headed over to Mimi & Papa's house to continue the festivities.

Sadie had a blast playing with Ogan (Em's boyfriend) and Auntie Winnah! We will all be so sad when Em moves to Utah in the beginning of January.

Sadie's REAL birthday

We had the family over to our house for pizza and cake number 2 on Sadie's real birthday. We had taken down all of the Christmas decorations and tree ornaments the day before, and re-decorated the tree as a "birthday tree" with balloons.

Naturally I made Sadie yet another homemade cake, this time not quite as snazzy as her one from the week before though!

All in all, it was a wonderful 2009 for us. Hard to believe that this time last year we were not yet thinking about a second child, and now what a presence Ruby is in our lives. And so hard to believe that our once tiny little 5lb 14oz baby girl is now a big 2 year old! It's been a great year, and we hope for 2010 to bring us more joy and happiness. Happy New Year!

Thankful

There are so many things to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving. First and foremost, my two beautiful, healthy little girls. They are the reason I get up in the morning, despite only a few hours of sleep. They make me smile all the time, constantly keep my days interesting, and have taught me to love so deeply that it hurts my heart. I cannot remember, nor do I want to, a day when Sadie & Ruby weren't in my life.

And of course I am thankful for my loving husband who has done so much to support me and our family. He's hardworking and motivated to do what is best for our family, and loves his daughters so much that it always makes my heart melt to see them together.

Although her hair wasn't TOTALLY out of control, I decided to get Sadie's hair trimmed, just to clean it up. She thoroughly enjoyed the experience- from the fishy cape, to the wet hair, to the lollipop she received as a prize afterwards. Not sure if the few snips were worth $14.99, but it was a fun first experience for her (and me)!

Trick-or-Treat!

We kicked off our Halloween weekend with a visit from Emily and new baby Riley, just 6 days younger than Ruby! Emily's husband and Sean are cousins, so Riley is a second cousin (?) to Sadie and Ruby. As always, Sadie was happy to pose for a photo.

We spent the afternoon trick-or-treating downtown Newburyport. Sadie chose to wear her Elmo costume (again) instead of her Super Sadie costume. So off we went. I think we made it into 5 stores in a matter of an hour and a half. Almost-2-year-olds don't trick or treat very efficiently!

We met up with some friends downtown for the event- here is Tilman the frog, Sadie, and Elsie the (sad) dog posing on the haystacks!

Sadie had a lot of firsts today, including Almond Joys, Mounds bars, Snickers, and the ever so popular Tootsie Pop. We will never know how many licks it takes to get to the center of it. She didn't have THAT much patience to get through it!

We spent the afternoon on the real Halloween carving pumpkins and working on saying the word, "jack-o-lantern." Unsuccessful.

On Halloween night I actually didn't even give Sadie a chance to choose between her Elmo costume or Super Sadie, given that she had already worn Elmo about 6 times this week. Unfortunately little Ruby didn't make it into her tiger costume for trick-or-treating since she was snoozing in her car seat!

We had a quick Park Lunch pizza dinner at Grammy & Grampy's before heading out in search of candy, and got a quick shot of Maggie, Sadie and Kelte all ready to go!

Catching Up

Alright, this post will be mostly pictures just to catch up from the last month that I've vanished from blogging land! In my defense though, I was away, I had a baby, and now have been adjusting to life with 2 girlies. But other than that I've just been lazy.

Ok, where to start.... We helped bring in the fall season by heading to Cider Hill Farms in Amesbury for some pumpkin pictures, apple picking, goat feeding, and donut eating with Sadie's cousins Cali & Patrick and of course Auntie Heather i.e. "Heath."

A mere two days after our lovely day at Cider Hill, I woke up on that Wednesday morning feeling some contractions. Nothing too regular, and nothing very painful, just noticeable. I tried to keep track of them throughout the day without much luck, because, as I found, it is very difficult to time contractions while chasing an almost-2-year-old around the park. In any case, Sean and I settled into bed around 10pm, only I was soon to be awoken by my water breaking around 11:45pm. I quickly got up, realized my contractions were a) close together, and b) extremely painful, so I texted Melissa and updated her on my current condition, made sure my bag was packed, and woke Sean up by midnight. Sean called his mom to come over, jumped in the shower, and we were off to the hospital, checked in and settled into a room by 12:30am on Thursday Oct 8th. You couldn't have paid me one million dollars to guess that I'd have a baby in less than an hour, but sure enough, at 1:21am, Ruby Page Reardon arrived with a full head of black hair. The midwife who delivered her, Sarah, was on her first on-call shift at the hospital, and Ruby was her first delivery ever at Anna Jaques. All went smoothly, and Ruby weighed in at a whopping 7 lbs 5.8oz (whopping compared to her sister who was a mere 5lb 14oz), 19 inches long.
She cried for a good long time and tuckered herself out! Unfortunately my mom missed the delivery, by only minutes, as we had no idea everything was going to happen so quickly. I think my mom arrived about 4 minutes after Ruby was born, but thankfully she had her camera with her so she was able to capture some of our first moments together as a family.

Sadie came to visit for the first time later that afternoon, and absolutely LOVED her new baby. We foresee (and hope for) lots of sisterly love between these two girls in the future!

Sadie was beyond thrilled that baby Ruby had even picked out a new Grover, just for her, and has since become nearly attached at the hip to her new blue friend.

Here we are getting ready to go home. Needless to say it was a totally different experience staying in the hospital with one baby but knowing you have another baby at home who needs you too. We were verrrrry excited to leave our tiny little room and get home!

Once home, we all settled in quite nicely. Sadie was excited her baby was home (even more excited than her mama being home). She was great with the baby, and didn't seem to mind when Ruby cried or when I needed to feed her. And at this point, it feels like Ruby has been here forever. We can't even remember how calm life was with only one baby to care for and entertain!

Sadie's first time holding Ruby. We figured Ruby's crib was a pretty safe locale for this endeavor, and when Ruby got fussy and I picked her up, Sadie cried, "Sadie HAVE HER!!!" Precious.

I just can't get enough sleeping baby pictures. They are so peaceful and snuggly and cuddly on cozy warm; I forgot how much I absolutely love the newborn stage!

So that's it for now.... and this time I PROMISE to do my best to keep up with blogging..... For now, I'm off to catch some zzzz's while I can, and keep my cell phone close by for my friend Melissa's text that she is in labor....

Tea Party

This morning Sadie discovered a ceramic tea set that she had gotten for Christmas last year which I had hidden in her closet. Given its ceramic-ness, I didn't feel as though it was safe to be dropped throughout the house, hence the reason I had hidden it. She, however, was intent on. "tea!" all afternoon, so she enjoyed her first tea party alongside Elmo and Kitty.

She made certain that Kitty got sugar AND cream in his tea....

And shoved spoonfuls of sugar down Elmo's mouth.

Then posed with Mama and said, "Teeeeaaaaaa!"

6 weeks!

Well we "officially" have just 6 weeks left till Sadie's sister is due to make her appearance, and although I haven't been as good about documenting this pregnancy as I was about documenting my pregnancy with Sadie, I did take a photo today!

Dog Days

We've spent the final few weeks of August BAKING in the sun, and trying to spend as much time enjoying being outdoors as possible! Sadie experienced her first peach-picking endeavor at Smolak Farms in North Andover which was great because the peach trees hung low enough so that her pregnant mama didn't have to hoist her up to pick them!

We spent a rainy day testing out her ladybug rain boots (which do, in fact, succeed in keeping socks dry!) by splashing in puddles on the sidewalk. I think all of High St. probably enjoyed when Sadie, instead of stomping her feet in the puddles, sat down smack in the middle of a puddle, and laid her head back in the water. Awesome.

As one of my birthday gifts, my parents gave me a gift certificate to the local bike store, which we used promptly to buy Miss Sadie a purple helmet, as well as a bike seat for the back of our bikes. Although she hasn't had the opportunity to go biking with mom yet, she's loved riding with Dadda, lifting up the back of his shirt and yelling, "bum!" as they cruise down High St.

Sadie has started wanting to choose her own outfits.... hence this pink track suit with brown headband....

We spent a fun morning at cousin Maggie's 3rd birthday party- Under the Sea theme! Sadie enjoyed the cake I think more than anyone else there...

We enjoyed a great day visiting with our long-lost friends Melissa & Molly. We spent the morning and afternoon at the beach, pool, eating Famous, napping, and just playing. We were sad to say goodbye after such a short visit, and can't believe that the next time we see the Doyles then there will be two new little babies to add into the mix!

Slacker

I know, I know, I've been slacking off updating The Cutting Edge lately, so here are some recent photos of what we've been up to.

We thoroughly enjoyed the week of Yankee Homecoming here in Newburyport. We kicked it off by heading down to Old Fashioned Sunday where Sean accompanied Sadie on a pony ride.

Then Mama and Auntie Meg took Maggie and Sadie on a train ride around the mall, where Sadie proceeded to wave and say, "hi" to everyone we passed by. She then proceeded to throw what may have been one of her biggest temper tantrums yet when she couldn't go back on the train for a second ride since the line was too long and the price was a rip off. That was the end of Old Fashioned Sunday for us.

We spent a morning babysitting/playing with Sadie's friend Will. They spent much of the morning chasing after each other and hugging. It was pretty cute if I do say so myself.

We tried to hit the sidewalk sales one day during Yankee Homecoming, but it was too stinken' hot out, so prego Mama cut the trip short and we headed home to the pool.

Race night of Yankee Homecoming. We watched the 10-miler go right by our house. And don't worry, Sadie was drinking her milk, not Dadda's, "bee-ah."

Family day at Maudsley. We went with Kyle, Heather, and Cali. Sadie and Cali pretty much just dragged each other around the whole time.

My parents, "Mimi" and "Papa" got a new puppy last weekend. She is a very cute little pointer/retriever mix who has been named Stella. Although I was against the puppy transaction wholeheartedly, I am finding a spot in my heart for Stella, who has been a very cute little addition to the Trieff family. And Sadie seems to enjoy playing with her out in the back yard, too!

At a birthday party on Saturday night, Sadie just needed a shoulder to lean on. Thanks, Cali.

Memorial Day

In an attempt to catch up with all that has been going on here for the past month, I'll start small and just go a day at a time! We had a nice Memorial Day Picnic at Hale Park complete with both sets of grandparents, Katie & Miguel, and Melissa & Molly.

Just a note to all those 2 people who follow our blog... ;) Camera is broken, and I haven't figured out how to upload pictures taken with the video camera yet! So once we get that fixed, we'll be back to posting!

For now though, we bid our good friends Melissa, John, Molly, and "warrior" Doyle bon voyage as they head off to British Columbia next week. We will miss you guys! Looking forward to many skype conversations where the girls can see each other on the computer :)

A Day At The Beach

...and that is exactly what today was! Sadie and I spent our first morning of the season at the beach today while Sean worked on painting the exterior of the house. Sadie had a blast, and loved burying her feet in the sand. Needless to say, the hot weather and salty air totally wiped her out, and she was asleep before we even pulled out of the parking lot.

Small Spaces

Unfortunately Sadie had an accident on Monday afternoon while going down the slide with her Mamma and injured her foot. She wasn't able to put any weight on it, so we brought her in for x-rays, and turns out the poor little girl has a broken growth plate! The doctor gave us a choice of whether or not to cast it, saying that either way she would be uncomfortable- either the cast would be uncomfortable or her foot would be hurting, so we decided not to cast it and to re-asses in a few days. We were told the not wearing a cast wouldn't be detrimental to the healing process. So that's that. She doesn't seem to be in any pain, unless she tries to stand or walk on it. She's been a real trooper, and it certainly hasn't stopped her from crawling about the house and searching for small spaces to maneuver into.

Yesterday Sadie took her first trip into the Aquarium with Mamma and Auntie Winnah. A good time was had by all, and although Auntie Winnah had to leave before lunch to get to work, we were very happy to spend the morning with her!

Sadie enjoyed having her Godfather, Marc, as a babysitter this morning. They apparently had SO much fun that she was completely passed out by the time I got home from work.

Sadie also enjoyed an extra-long bath tonight, splashing, blowing bubbles, and even doing a little performing for Mamma.

Sure enough March has come in like a vicious lion, and here we are snowed in on March 9th. Sadie has become a pro at pointing to her various body parts, as well as using sign language for "more" and "please."

Busy Girl!

This past week has been a busy one for us! For those of you who do not know, Sadie will be a new big sister in October! The news came to us as quite a surprise, but we have embraced it and are very excited for Sadie to have a new baby brother or sister! Speaking of babies, Sadie's Auntie Heather and Uncle Kyle welcomed their second baby, a boy, into the world this morning at 7:35 am. He weighed exactly 7 lbs and was 20 inches. He still remains nameless at this point, but we are hoping for a decision by tomorrow! The following is a collection of pictures from the past week, enjoy!

Sadie has just started art classes on Thursdays, and this is her first masterpiece- a tissue paper collection of fish :)

He looks just like Cali did when she was born! Sean is pulling for either Michael or Patrick, and I like Noah or Jake, but Sadie seems to think he should be named, "BAAAAA" (her version of baby). But we know that whatever names his parents choose will fit him perfectly!

Ribbons and Bows

.......well not quite- more like clips and headbands, but same idea! Sadie's favorite drawer in the house is in the bathroom, the one that contains all of my hair supplies. Her favorite contents of the drawer are hair clips, which she hands to me and wants me to clip them into her hair. Sadie is really becoming such a "girl"- brushing her hair, trying on headbands. She has even learned how to send a text message...

Sadie has been working on a few teeth for about 2 weeks now, and has definitely been a little cranky due to it. We gave her a popsicle last night for the first time in hopes of soothing her sore gums.

Yesterday Molly and her mom came over to visit for a bit. Molly loved wearing Sadie's purple necklace....

Sadie woke up with a bit of a runny nose today, and took a killer nap while Mamma went to work. When she got up, she thought it would be fun to toss all of her stuffed animals over the side of her crib:

Sadie then got very upset when she had no more animals left to toss over, and decided she wanted out, too.

Once out of her crib, she decided to go through her box of animals, and toss all of them out, too.

Sadie has been obsessed with cats lately, making "meow" sounds every time she sees an animal slightly resembling a cat (this includes dogs, squirrels, chipmunks, even a skunk in her book).

She also loves giving kisses....

...and making sure her animals show each other love, too.

She ended her afternoon with a few good rocks on her rocking lion, before emptying out her box of stuffed animals once again.

Gettin' Started!

I have been inspired by a good friend to start a blog. Uploading pictures onto facebook is one thing, but I am hoping that this will act more as a journal to share stories about our family and connect with our friends and family.

With that said, here are some photos from the past few months, just to get us started.

Sadie has thoroughly enjoyed her swimming classes that she's taken at the Newburyport YWCA. She loves to "kick kick kick" and swim to attain as many water toys as possible during class. She even lets me dunk her under water every now and then!

We decided to start a tradition this year of taking a photo of Sadie in her bed each Christmas morning. Clearly she was not pleased with out decision.
